Celebrating Earth Day at Delaware North, we join people around the world on April 22 in recognizing the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. It is a chance to reflect on our approach and the actions we take to make a difference.

Across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, our teams are working together to protect the planet. Through volunteering, sustainable swaps and everyday operational changes, these collective efforts show how small actions can create meaningful impact across our venues and communities.

How does Delaware North U.K. drive sustainable change?

Across the U.K., our stadium teams are making practical changes to reduce waste and improve sustainability across operations. Over the past year, the Wembley Stadium team replaced around 400,000 single-use plastic cups with reusable aluminum alternatives and introduced new technology to reduce unnecessary plastic waste. The team also transitioned to biodegradable, seaweed-based packaging, aligning with wider sustainability practices across Delaware North venues. These efforts have contributed to recycling rates of up to 72% during major events.

How did Delaware North U.K. team members celebrate Earth Day?

This Earth Day, Delaware North U.K. team members took part in the Attensi app “Switch It Off!” campaign, turning sustainability training into action. Head Office and stadium teams engaged in a friendly competition, completing modules focused on sustainable practices at work and at home. For every two completions, a tree was planted, directly linking learning with action. This initiative built awareness of sustainable behaviors while delivering a tangible environmental benefit.

How did Delaware Australia and New Zealand celebrate Earth Day?

At Marvel Stadium, the team marked Earth Day with a themed cocktail during the Bulldogs vs. Swans match, with proceeds supporting “The Wheen Bee Foundation”, an organization focused on protecting Australian pollinators and the ecosystems they support. The “Marga-bee-ta” initiative gave guests a simple way to contribute while reinforcing the importance of biodiversity and environmental responsibility.

Driving sustainable sourcing at Mindil Beach Casino Resort

At Mindil Beach Casino Resort, team members and partners launched the InvertiGro Vertical Wall, marking the start of a new collaboration with InvertiGro and Simon George & Sons to support sustainable sourcing for food and beverage.

The system enables a diverse range of crops to be grown year-round, helping deliver fresh produce directly to venues and the local community. By reducing reliance on external supply chains, it lowers environmental impact while strengthening connections to local sourcing and sustainability. This initiative highlights how innovation and partnership can support a more sustainable approach to hospitality.

Delaware North’s sustainability program: GreenPath®

At the heart of Delaware North’s sustainability efforts is GreenPath®, our environmental management program guiding operations globally since 1999. This long-standing approach supports how we:
  • Source locally and responsibly
  • Reduce energy and water use
  • Minimize waste and increase recycling and composting
  • Integrate sustainability into venue design and operations
Through GreenPath®, sustainability remains a continuous focus shaping how we operate and support the environments around us.

Why every action matters at Delaware North

Earth Day is a reminder that sustainability is built through consistent, everyday actions rather than a single moment. From reducing energy use and volunteering in our communities to improving packaging across our venues, each step plays a part in how we operate responsibly. By building sustainable practices into everyday work, Delaware North team members continue to make progress together, helping to create a more sustainable future.
